Fuerteventura isn’t just an island: it’s an idea of freedom.

It’s the place where the wind invites you to slow down, where the sand meets the desert, and where the sea changes color a hundred times a day. Its beaches are so different from one another that it almost feels like crossing continents, not kilometers. What follows isn’t a ranking—it’s a selection of places that truly capture the island’s soul. Some are famous, others are known only to a few. But all of them, without exception, tell a story worth hearing.

1. Playa de Sotavento – Where the sea redraws the coast!

Sotavento is a continuous play between water and sand: lagoons that appear and disappear, sandbars that look hand-drawn, and light that changes minute by minute.

It’s well-known, of course, but if you move a little away from the central area, you’ll find yourself in a surreal silence, with the ocean seeming to breathe slowly.

2. Cofete – The wildest side of Fuerteventura!

Reaching Cofete is a small journey into the heart of the island itself: dirt roads, dark mountains, endless horizons. When it finally appears, you understand why it’s one of the most iconic beaches in the Canary Islands: vast, remote, and untouched. Here, time expands, the wind rules, and you feel tiny. And that is exactly where its charm lies.

3. Playa del Castillo (El Cotillo) – A luminous calm!

Natural pools, clear water, black rocks contrasting with the sand.

It’s one of the most harmonious beaches in the north and maintains a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for those who want to enjoy the day without the crowds of the more touristy areas.

4. Playa de Esquinzo (Cotillo) – Intimate and with a surfer’s soul!

It’s wild but not extreme, battered by the wind yet full of charm.

Surfers love it, but just a short walk away you can find a spot all to yourself.

Here, the sea tells stories that are stronger and more real.

5. Playa de La Concha (El Cotillo) – The postcard that never gets old!

Perhaps the “sweetest” beach on the island: a perfect crescent, turquoise water, and a peaceful atmosphere.

Yes, it’s well-known and loved by many, but if you move away from the busiest central area, you’ll still find silence, space, and an almost motionless sea.

6. Playa de Ajuy – The volcanic power!

Ajuy is something else! The sand is black, the cliffs look sculpted by an ancient force, and the waves arrive with character. After the beach, you can explore the caves and the scenic trail: a journey through the island’s geological history that seems never-ending.

7. Playa Escalera (Playa del Águila) – The staircase to the wild!

The official name is Playa del Águila, but everyone calls it Playa Escalera because of the long staircase carved into the cliff that takes you down. The descent is already an adventure, but what you find below is even more so: a vast stretch of golden sand, strong waves, and a completely secluded atmosphere.

8. Playa de Mal Nombre – The “almost secret” beach of the south!

Between Jandía and Sotavento hides this long, quiet, and little-visited beach.

Clear sand, calm waters, and a silence that feels like a gift.

Perfect for those looking to avoid the busier areas.

9. Playa de Esquinzo-Butihondo – Spacious, bright, relaxing!

One of the best alternatives for those who love spacious beaches without the crowds.

It’s perfect for long walks and for enjoying the south without having to fight for a spot to lay your towel.

10. Playa de Gran Tarajal – The everyday island!

No frills, no exaggerated settings: here you find authentic local life.

It’s the residents’ beach, with a peaceful promenade, Canarian families, fishermen, and a genuine atmosphere.

A different side of the island, more human and more familiar.
